Yes! You can prayer-walk a route that you’ve already prayed, and you can also prayer-walk a route that someone else has prayed. Each time you mark your prayer-walk on the TKC Here map, those streets will glow a little brighter.
No, the map is only open for 2 months (May and June) each year. Different churches may engage with the map for all or part of the 2 months, e.g. just preceding Pentecost. The experience from other cities has shown that a concentrated mobilisation for prayer for a period of time has higher results. The hope is that through this focused period of prayer walking people discover the joy of it,
There are two video guides produced by the prayer-walking team in Sheffield that can help you get started with the app
No, but using the map is a great way to encourage other believers. There’s something so powerful in knowing that there are thousands of other Christians all praying together in your area.
City wide prayer walking has been happening in cities across the UK for the past few years. Places like Portsmouth, Coventry, Sheffield, and Wakefield have covered their whole city in a month. The partnerships that have happened through the collaborative prayer have strengthened unity between the local churches. Praying in the community has led to greater mission and community engagement by the church. Many people who have participated tell how their own prayer has changed as well as stories of those who have discovered Jesus through meeting those prayer walking.
Some boroughs do organise led walks of different varieties for people to join in with. For more information about the events happening in your borough contact us or your borough facilitator (see the 2025 TKC Here guide for more information).
It is for anyone. Whist we invite church leaders to formally partner with the initiative and inform their congregations individuals can just get involved. It is as easy as registering on the website and walking out of the door. Having others from your church to walk and pray with is certainly beneficial, but not essential.
Share the map link with people and let local prayer groups know. There may be a prayer walk that you could organise and invite others too. If you would like to facilitate prayer walking for your area then do get in touch with us.
